Since 2002, Designmatters at Art Center has received a wide range of commissions to produce public awareness media campaigns for several United Nations and international aid agencies. These campaigns, produced by Elisa Ruffino for Designmatters, receive worldwide distribution and highlight globally significant issues such as healthcare, social entrepreneurship, public policy and sustainable human development.
Equally important, the distribution of these campaigns by international aid partners powerfully demonstrates how designers, as strategic thinkers and communicators in many media, can effectively mobilize public opinion and contribute to the positioning of critical issues in the public and private sectors.
USGS commissioned film director and motion graphic designer Theo Alexopoulos, an Art Center alumnus from the Graduate Media Design program, to bring the ShakeOut scenario to life in this short film that draws viewers into a visceral journey that also amounts to a potent call to action.
